A Successful Session with Grand Staff!

Yesterday I had a great session with Kaleb of Grand Staff. We've been working on this one song for what feels like forever and its been like pulling teeth to finish it. Finally we decided to throw out all our ideas of how the song SHOULD sound and just create something fun. Then it was easy! The melody came and then the lyrics and I LOVE what we came up with. Be prepared though, it's definitely a different sound for me, but it makes me wanna dance y'all! I can't wait to post it : )

Late night @ PIANOS

Last night's set at Pianos was a solo performance. David Baron invited me to play after his sold-out album release show — needless to say, he packed the place. I went on around midnight and after playing a few of my favorite originals, I got to debut two brand new songs, "The Feeling of Us" and "Trip With Me." It was a nice change of pace to fly solo for a night : )

The only foolproof way to avoid heartbreak is to never let anyone get close enough to touch your heart. You'll never get the wind smacked out of you, you'll never be let down and you'll never cry yourself to sleep. 

But I want to lose my breath, and be swept away, and weep tears of joy. I want to feel a love so intense it hurts. The kind that would kill me if it wasn't what I thought it was, but is exactly what I know it is. The trouble is, there's no way to tell the difference between the real thing and a counterfeit unless I am willing to take the risk and be free with my heart. 

So here I am. Again. A heartbroken record.

Good Vibrations

The show at Rockwood went great! I always feel humbled when people come out to see me, even if there are only a few. We had a great turnout last night so thanks to everyone who came! This is a short bit from my journal entry after the show:

I suppose I dream one day I'll play for stadiums full of people, but really there's nothing like being in this small room where people can feel your heat and your heart, where everyone creates this amazing energy and together we all go somewhere higher.

Coming Back Down to Earth

Wow. This visit home has proven to be anything but the expected. I have so much I want to write about but right now I'm packing up and preparing for my flight tomorrow morning. Finally getting off the bench and back into real life even though part of me desperately wants to stay. This break has made me realize that life's unpredictability is one of the things that make it so beautiful, so as I continue my journey and move into the new year I'm going to try embracing the unknown and all of its possibilities.
